Edible Wild Plants

I went on an edible wild plant walk with Russ Cohen author of Wild Plants I Have Known and Eaten, at Alandale farms. It was the coolest 2 hours I've spent in a long time.  Now I'm seeing the weeds in my back yard as food. I'll be eating that Japanese Knotweed that I've spent 15 years trying to get rid of it. His book has a recipe for strawberry knotweed pie.

Charity Event

Last night was a lot of fun preparing and serving samples at The Jamaica Plain Open Studios auction. Everyone enjoyed the lamb meatballs with a Greek yogurt sauce, my own Buffalo tofu with a home made blue cheese dressing and my signature hummus. Three party favorites. It is very flattering to have so many people ask for my recipes. If I reveal all, who will buy the cookbook? I do plan to post some recipes in the near future.

Blue Berry Cobbler

If you need blue berry cobbler, let me know. I've been playing around with different styles of cobblers for years and I'm sticking with this one. I think it's the best. Blue berries were the bomb. Can't wait to see those local peaches at the Farmers Markets.

Now I should be making some vanilla bean ice cream to go with this. Where's the ice cream maker?

Picnics

Catering an annual picnic for school teachers on Monday. The teachers deserve it after spending a year in the class rooms. It's a great menu, 3 of my signature sandwiches, a Muffaletta style sandwich on Ciabatta olive oil bread with my green and black olives, roasted garlic and roasted red-pepper spread. A tuna sandwich made from tuna steaks grilled with just a bit of hickory smoke, and mixed into a delicious salad. A vegetarian wrap filled with my homemade hummus, famous in some circles, sweet potatoes, zucchini, carrot, red bell pepper and asparagus. I'm also making a Mediterranean salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, roasted chick peas and fresh herbs tossed with an excellent Greek olive oil. I'm excited about the fruit platters with all of those berries and melons in season.

OK, I'm hungry just thinking about it.

Creamy

Such a creamy whole wheat macaroni and cheese. It's very comforting to watch them smile while they eat it.
